About the Position 

We are seeking an analytical and technically fluent Senior Product Owner to lead a team responsible for Flywheel’s distributed compute, workflow orchestration, and data lifecycle management solutions. In this role, you will define how distributed systems, workflows, and data lifecycle capabilities become a coherent, governable product translating infrastructure capabilities into user-facing value across multiple personas.  

This role will focus on reshaping Flywheel’s compute capabilities for improved usability, reliability, and scalability of our compute infrastructure including containerized solutions used for data processing, image analysis, and machine learning workloads. We are seeking someone comfortable working at the intersection of distributed systems, data platform and product strategy. You will partner closely with our solutions engineering, architecture, and platform engineering teams to translate technical capabilities into reliable and scalable product features used by research and clinical organizations worldwide.  

In addition to owning key compute platform initiatives, you will be expected to contribute across multiple product areas as needed, coordinating cross-platform capabilities for workflow automation, compute governance, and system reliability.

Responsibilities 

• Translate multi-persona workflows into clear product requirements and scalable platform capabilities. 
• Define orchestration capabilities that connect compute with data lifecycle services, including governed, version-controlled pipelines.
• Improve reliability, performance, and observability of distributed workloads.  
• Gather and synthesize customer needs across hybrid (on-prem + cloud) environments; define requirements for workload routing, resource allocation, and cost management. 
• Define orchestration capabilities that connect compute with data lifecycle services including governed, version-controlled pipelines with solutions that are reliable, observable, and explainable to users.
• Translate real-world compute environments into scalable product capabilities.  
• Own the roadmap for workflow orchestration, hybrid compute, and containerized execution. Develop a path, in partnership with engineering, releasable phases delivering value to customers. 
• Prioritize initiatives based on customer impact, reliability, and scalability; drive agile execution. 
• Support go-to-market efforts through demos, workflow storytelling, and product documentation. 

What would make you a great fit

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred. 
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to reason about system performance, reliability, and scalability.
• 5-10 years of experience in product management or product ownership for technical platforms with distributed systems, compute platforms or data infrastructure. 
• Ability to reason across multiple personas interacting within a shared system (e.g., data engineers, scientists, clinicians, operators), and translate that into coherent product requirements.
• Experience with workflow orchestration or distributed systems, including system behavior, tradeoffs, and failure modes.
• Experience with major cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure environments
• Demonstrated ability to form and defend product decisions in technical domains, balancing engineering constraints, user needs, and business outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to flex across roles, influence others, and collaborate efficiently with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. 
• Team lead or management experience. 
• Passion for technology, innovation, and delivering exceptional results. 
• Background in machine learning platforms, data processing pipelines, or HPC environments. 
• A mindset that demands harnessing data from platform monitoring and analytics tools to close the feedback loop.
