Software Engineering Team Lead
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Team Lead to join Flywheel’s Viewer team. In this role, you will lead a specialized product team building a state-of-the-art medical imaging viewer used across multiple clinical workflows. The ideal candidate is passionate about solving meaningful problems, developing and elevating the engineers around them, and delivering high-quality results. This role requires strong people leadership skills and a software engineering background.

Responsibilities
- Own delivery outcomes for the team, ensuring high-quality software is released predictably and efficiently.
- Partner with the Product Owner and Technical Lead to keep work well-scoped, prioritized, and ready for development
- Identify delivery risks and cross-team dependencies early and help address before they impact timelines.
- Manage and support engineers; provide regular feedback, coaching, and guidance on professional development.
- Foster an inclusive, psychologically safe team culture where engineers are empowered to take ownership, collaborate openly, and do their best work.
- Support continued team growth by participating in interviewing, candidate selection, and onboarding.
- Stay hands-on as an engineer by contributing to features and fixes, reviewing code, and solving problems alongside other engineers.
- Promote engineering best practices by encouraging well-designed, maintainable, and testable code.
- Help triage incoming bugs and stakeholder requests and ensure they are routed and resolved quickly
What would make you a great fit
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building cloud-based web applications; experience leading product teams shipping at scale
- 2+ years managing engineers, or equivalent leadership experience (mentorship, performance input, hiring, career development)
- Ability to coach and grow engineers through feedback, goal setting, and development conversations
- Track record of delivering quality software while maintaining team health and engagement
- Strong communication skills: clear feedback, difficult conversations, and stakeholder/leadership alignment
- Hands-on manager comfortable balancing people leadership and individual contribution
- Agile/Scrum experience, including improving team processes
- Experience leading in distributed teams with strong async communication and documentation habits
- Medical imaging, healthcare software, or other regulated-domain experience
- Experience coordinating major dependency upgrades or OSS framework adoption (e.g., OHIF)
- Familiarity with some of our stack: TypeScript, Python, Go, MongoDB, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure
